THEY ARE GENIUSES!

1.- Look for a photo of these people and paste it here:

a) Handicapped people:

• Louis Braille        
• Stephen Hawkings

b) Women:

• Marie Curie

c)Human and social models

• Gandhi    
• Mother Teresa

2.- Surf the Internet and:

• Write     a summary of their lives.
• Born (where and when).   
• Important landmarks in his/her life.   
• A curiosity/ an anecdote about him/her.       
• Recognition (prizes...).
• What he/she did for humanity.

3.- A handicapped person: Louis Braille:

• Go to this link     http://www.cnib.ca/en/ and click on “Living with Vision Loss”.    

•    Use the Braille system to read the sentence from the novel “The Little Prince”.

•    What are the most common breeds of guide dogs and what characteristics must they have? What happens to them when they retire? 

•    Go to "Independent living” and write one special precaution blind people must take for each of the sections (ex: In the kitchen...).

4.- A woman: Marie Curie

• Go to this link and know some important American and British women in history:

• Choose 5 of them and write what they did and why they are important.

5.- A human and social model: Gandhi

• Watch the trailer on Gandhi's film and write down three of his ideas from the trailer.       
• Scroll down the page and read the plot summary. Then answer these questions:        

1. Why did he start his protests in South Africa?   
2. Which is the common and main characteristic of his protests in South Africa and India?
3. Why does he declare a hunger strike?   
4. Why is India divided? What two countries are the result of this partition?   
5. How does he die?   
6. Why do you think he is a model for humanity?

• Go to wikipedia and add three things that impressed you or three curiosities about his life.
