MAKE THE GRADE
UNIT 1. EXPRESS YOURSELF. PART 1

  1. Describe photos 2 and 4 on p. 7 (How many? Age(+/-)? Where? Doing? Feeling? Why?
  2. Name the apps the icons represent and write/say something about each one (p.8) (“Opt”).

  3. Write or speak about you: are you addicted to your phone? (p.9).
    1. Scale 1-5: without phone?
    2. Messages a day?
    3. Miss the most- not connected?
    4. If no phone, time doing?
  4. Read the first part of the interview with Craig (p. 9).
  5. Read the second part (p. 9).
  6. Describe the photo on p. 9 (How many? Age(+/-)? Hair, eyes? Clothes? Doing? Feeling? Why? Why is the word “life” on the wall?
  7. Describe the photo on p. 10 (How many? Age(+/-)? Clothes (in general)? Doing? Why are the emojis in the photo?
  8. Make nouns adding different suffixes: happy, disappoint, popular, combine, communicate, improve, lonely, person and punctuate.
  9. Invent a sentence with five of the previous nouns (p. 10) (“Opt”).
  10. Read the text on p. 11.
  11. Pronounce these words or expressions from the text: such as, hearts, nowadays, actually, described, 35,00, used, ancient, developed, called, was, c reative, combinations, punctuation, engineer, named, created, spread, worldwide, even, noticed, our, message, result, laughing, other, care, disappointment, backwards, worth.
  12. Write or speak about the text on p. 11 (“Opt”):

        1. Face-to-face: tone, face, body /by messagging: missing-misunderstand
      3. Smiley, wink,-lighten up. Laughing emoji-joking. Sad face-disappointment
      4. Backwards? In a way. In this day and age-a picture=+1,000 words
  13. Invent one sentence with the present perfect simple and one sentence with the past perfect simple and translate them into Spanish (affirmative, negative, question, short answers negative interrogative and Spanish) (p. 12).
  14. Invent one sentence with the past perfect simple and the past simple together and translate it into Spanish (p. 12).
  15. Invent one sentence with the present perfect simple and one sentence with the present perfect continuous and translate them into Spanish (affirmative, negative, question, short answers, negative interrogative and Spanish) (p. 13).
  16. Invent sentences with these words and translate them into Spanish: how long?, ever?, just, for, since, already, yet. Remember to use the correct verb tense (p. 13).

  20. Read Lisa’s interview (p. 14).
  21. Write or speak about you (ex. 7 and 8, p. 14):
    1. Home (where from and what you like about it).
    2. Your family.
    3. Free time (hobbies, sports and friends).
    4. Favourite school subject.
    5. The future (studies, work).
  22. Read the e-mail on p. 16.
